Arriving into Madrid we were met by our Busabout guide and camera-man (documenting the famil for Busabout promo), who had travelled not so far from the UK, and went to check in at our hostel – U Hostel Madrid. Clean and modern – a hostel I happily would’ve have stayed at if travelling independently!
We then took a quick walk around Madrid before heading to the Hammam Al Andalus to spend a few hours relaxing in the beautiful baths and getting a massage. Heaven!
The next morning was spent doing a more comprehensive orientation walk of Madrid with the group, before some adventuring by myself. We also narrowly avoided being pick pocketed by a group of young girls. It was pretty cold but still quite beautiful.

We stopped quickly at a famous bull-fighting cafe and got a coffee, before walking through Parque del Buen Retir,  which is home to the Fuente del Ángel Caído – Fountain of the Fallen Angel. It is  the only public monument to the Devil himself, depicting Lucifer at the moment he is cast out of Heaven.

After getting some lunch (patatas bravas, cheese & beer!) we attempted to go to one to Museo del Prado (one of the major art museums) but it was unfortunately closed that day.  We walked through the Parque del Retiro, I then went to the Temple of Debod, an ancient Egyptian rebuilt in Madrid, strange but interesting. I also went to the san Francisco el Grande Basilica, a church with stunning paintings inside.

That night we went to Mercado San Miguel for dinner and drinks before attending Cardamomo Tablao Flamenco  to see at traditional Flamenco later that night, which is definitely worth checking out if you’re in Madrid!
